A Note From Pastor Ben

Happy New Year! As we head into 2025 I want to give you an overview of where we are heading this year.

To start we are about seven weeks out from being finished with our study through the Gospel of John. This will bring to close our year long study into why we have no excuses when it comes to knowing Jesus as the Savior of the World. If you would like to view any previous messages you can find them on Youtube. There is a link for this at the bottom of our webpage.

2025 is going to be a year of growing in our understanding of discipleship. We will be working through four topical series this year to help with this; Living in Power (Eph 3:20-21), Defeating Desires (Titus 3:4-6), Prayer, the Breath of Life (Phil 4:6-7), and finally Confronting Sin (Rom 12:17-18).

To aid in the discipleship process, Burr Oak is providing a few tools this year. First of all, as a church we are working on reading through our Bibles in a year. You can find the guided schedule on our Welcome Center as well as our website.

Secondly, we will be growing in our understanding and practice of prayer. Our adult small groups is where we are going to be putting a heavy emphasis on this this year. We are going to spend six months working through the material A Praying Church by Paul Miller.

Finally, to further your ability to disciple I would also encourage you to attend the Annual Tri-State CBC Conference coming up in April that will be looking at how heart change is real change.

Ministry Update

This month’s Ministry Spotlight features our Bus Stop Ministry. The weekly Bus Stop Ministry was inspired by another local church who passes out snacks after school near Central Noble Elementary School. With their blessing, we began with a stop of our own on Hazel St in Albion. After much prayer and dedication, we 3 different “Bus Stops” each Wednesday, as long as school is in session. Our weekly volunteers are a blessing to the community and are building relationships with the children and families of Albion.

Chili Cook-off

Join us for our Annual Chili Cook-off! Enjoy the delicious cooking of the people of Burr Oak while enjoying fellowship and community. This event will follow our regular worship service, so feel free to join us for worship at 10:30 am that morning also!

Stewardship Report

We closed out 2024 with $116,720.81 in income and $107,793.10 in expenses.

One of our bigger expenses this past year was the addition of the AED unit which can be found mounted in the foyer area.

We also invested into our outreach opportunities through our Bus Stop Ministry and through a 5th Quarter Event at Central Noble Jr. Sr. High.

In the upcoming year we have a couple big maintenance items we plan to accomplish.

We plan to refresh our foyer area and fellowship hall with a new coat of paint and the removal of the popcorn ceiling.

It is also our goal in 2025 to replace both fuel oil furnaces with more efficient propane furnaces and to update the heat pump/ac unit for the sanctuary.
